Embroidery vs leather patch on trucker hats
Both cost about the same per hat at Battle Born Clothing. The choice is about the logo, the look and who is wearing it.

Pick embroidery when
- The logo uses two or more colors.
- You want the logo to be part of the hat, not sitting on it.
- The hat is a uniform item worn daily.
- You need the lowest total on a small reorder (no patch cutting).
Pick a leather patch when
- The logo is one color and reads as line art or a solid mark.
- The hat is a retail product or a gift; patches sell at a higher price point.
- The front is camo or a busy pattern that would fight embroidery.
- You want the engraved, outdoor look that breweries, ranches and outfitters use.
What each looks like on the hat
Embroidery sits in the fabric with a slight raised texture and a thread sheen. Thin outlines and small text soften a little, which is why we hold text at 0.25 in and up. A leather patch is a separate object on the panel: a tan rectangle, circle or custom shape with the art burned in dark. It has edges you can feel and a matte finish. Side by side, embroidery looks like a uniform; a patch looks like merchandise. Most brands that sell hats pick the patch. Most companies that issue hats pick embroidery. Many do one of each.
Durability
Embroidery is thread stitched through the panel. It lasts as long as the hat. A glued leather patch, attached with our heat process on a two-platen hat press, holds through normal wear and washing; we have used the same method since 2020. A sewn patch adds a stitched border and the reassurance of thread. If either fails because of our work, we redo it free.
Artwork rules

Doing both
A patch on the front and embroidery on the side or back is common for brands. Price is the patch tier plus the embroidery tier for your quantity. We show it all on one proof.

Questions
Which looks more expensive?
Leather patch. It is the decoration on most $30+ retail trucker hats.
Can a patch go on a mesh-front or foam hat?
Not well. Patches need a structured fabric front. Foam fronts are screen printed instead, quoted per job.
Which is faster?
Both run on the standard 28-day schedule from proof approval. Patches skip digitizing, so the proof can go out a day or two sooner.
